Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2026 & How to Use It

Pantone has named Cloud Dancer (11-4201) as its Colour of the Year for 2026 — a soft, luminous white with a warm undertone.

Why Cloud Dancer?

After 2024’s Peach Fuzz and 2025’s Mocha Mousse, the industry has stepped back from saturation. Cloud Dancer is about clarity, calm and space. It reflects a wider shift in interiors: less visual noise, more light, more room for the people and the materials in the space to do the talking.

Using Cloud Dancer in a commercial interior

  • As a base. Walls, ceilings and light joinery. It’s forgiving, brightens small rooms and makes other materials — timber, stone, brass, greenery — look richer.
  • With warmth. Pair with warm timber, natural stone, wool and leather. Cool whites with cool greys can feel clinical; Cloud Dancer’s warmth avoids that.
  • With depth. Because it’s so light, a single deep accent (charcoal, olive, terracotta) creates contrast without clutter.
  • In lighting design. Check whites under the actual light source and colour temperature before specifying. A white that’s right under one LED can go cold or yellow under another.

Where it works best

Workplaces, clinics, retail environments and hospitality rooms that want to feel open. It’s particularly effective in heritage or small-footprint buildings in Sydney, where maximising perceived space matters.

What to avoid

Don’t specify white on every surface. Without texture, material contrast or a considered palette, a light scheme reads as unfinished rather than calm. Layers — matte and gloss, hard and soft, warm and cool — are what make it work.

Practical next step

Colour selection is best done as part of the fitout design, not as a separate exercise. It touches joinery, flooring, stone, upholstery and lighting, and every one of those has a cost and a lead time.
