2023 Interior Design Trends for your Commercial Fitout

As we zoom through 2023, there are many interior design trends that are coming to the fore. Whether you are thinking of a cafe fitout, an office refurbishment or a restaurant make-over, Liteco Projects Sydney, can help you incorporate these new elements into your space or inspire you to explore new directions.

Trend One: Maximalism

Minimalism has been a popular trend for many years now. We are all familiar with simple, uncluttered spaces, interiors with clean lines, bare essentials, pared back colours and monochromatic palettes.

However, in recent years there has been a shift towards the opposite of minimalism – maximalism. Maximalism is rich, eclectic and above all, confident.

It is defined by bold colours and patterns, mixing up a range of colours, textures and objects and firmly rooted in a “more-is-more” philosophy.

This style works well in restaurant and cafe fitouts allowing a venue to be individual and ooze personality. The space created can be playful and fun, with bold pops of colour and a quirky sense of humour.

As Penny Craswell writes in The Design Writer:

“Maximalist interiors and designs offer the designer to get really creative – to explore play and to indulge in an orgy of extremes”.

Trend Two: Retro-Inspired Design

Retro is certainly IN in interior design and fitouts in 2023, with nostalgia making a huge comeback.

When you talk of retro interior design, it is often the influence of trends followed in the 1950s to the 1970s with a focus on bold colors, geometric patterns and retro-inspired furniture.

Bright coloured walls, pendant lights, wall paneling, large paintings chequered b & w patterns on carpets and cushions, and hints of yellow are all elements to consider.

If these elements are incorporated into a cafe fit out or a restaurant refurbishment, they can add a sense of nostalgic playfulness to your space.

Trend Three: Botantical-Inspired interiors

Bringing the outside in with nature inspired interiors this trend was seen in 2022 and continues strongly in 2023. The fundamental belief is that incorporating nature into your interiors promotes harmony.

Nature inspired interiors take their cue from “biophilic design” – a concept that encourages a closer connection between humans and nature when creating interior spaces.

Integrating natural elements in your cafe, restaurant or office fitout, will bring a sense of calm to your space, creating a connection to the outdoors and improve the quality of life. Think organic textures, earthy tones, and natural materials such as wood, stone, and rattan.

Trend Four: Statement Ceilings

We have all heard of statement walls and floors, but statement ceilings are not so common. Think of it as a fifth wall, a blank canvas, offers a wealth of design opportunities – whether it be bold colours, intricate patterns, or unique textures.

In 2023, ceilings are definitely taking center stage and reaching new heights!.

This new trend can add a sense of drama to your cafe fitout or restaurant refurbishment – creating a conversation piece or buzz in your space.

Trend Five: Artisanal Details

Another major trend seen in 2023 is handcrafted and artisanal details.

This can be anything from including woven textiles and handmade pottery in your space or adding unique sculptures or individual art pieces. These details not only allow your business to support small businesses and local artisans but they also add character and personality to your space.
