Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2026 is Cloud Dancer — a warm, luminous white. It’s one of the most practical picks in years for commercial interiors, precisely because it behaves as a foundation rather than a statement.
Start with one question
Before you specify anything: what should this space make people do? Sell, work, eat, wait, decide? The colour that supports the behaviour is the right colour — not the one on the poster.
1. Use it as a base, not a feature
Light, warm whites on walls, ceilings and pale joinery make rooms feel larger and daylight work harder. Ideal for workplaces, clinics, retail and small-tenancy hospitality.
2. Pair it with natural materials
Timber, stone, wool, leather and greenery. A warm white makes natural materials look richer; cool clinical whites make them look flat.
3. Add one depth tone
Charcoal, olive, terracotta, deep green. Contrast creates focus — reception joinery, a bar front, a waiting zone — without visual clutter.
4. Treat it as a lighting decision
Whites are the hardest colours to get right under artificial light. Specify the finish and the light source together, ideally with a sample on site.
5. Use texture where you’d use stronger colour
Where a palette feels too quiet, add texture instead: brushed finishes, matte against gloss, panelling, slatted joinery, tactile upholstery.
6. Put trend colours on replaceable surfaces
Cloud Dancer will age well. Anything bolder should go on paint, upholstery or signage that can be changed in a weekend — not on structural joinery or stone.
